The first post of a blog is always a challenge, it must be interesting and let the readers know what this blog is going to be about. So I will attempt to do this while at my fourth year pharmacy rotation. If I happen to start talking about proper IV rates for Potassium drips then you know that my preceptor just walked into the office.
I have always been intrigued by adventure racing. I remember watching the Eco-Challenge (produced by Mark Burnett) when I was in high school and saying to my self "One day I will do an adventure race". Well that was 10 years and about 60lbs less ago. As I approach the end of my school career I find my self with more free time and the need to get into shape (only one more month until I turn 30). During my last rotation I was hanging with the pharmacist talking about food and food and where to get some great food. After about a half hour of this somebody mentioned working out, then the Long Beach Marathon was mentioned. The pharmacist, and tech then told me they where going to run it. Eventually they talked me into it and I signed up. So after 2 months of training I ran/jogged/walking the Long Beach 1/2 Marathon. The next day I was on the internet looking to sign up for another 1/2 marathon. During my web surfing I came across a few adventure races and I knew that I had to do one...and I wanted to do it soon...
I sign up for my first adventure called the Equinox 12 hour Adventure Race. However this is not a one man race. I needed a team. So this is the story of Team Steel Rx and how we started adventure racing. Follow along as we learn by doing and hopefully one day become a competitive team.
